Vocational Training Options

Often the difference between a good job and the unemployment line is your exposure to vocational training which can come through career colleges and schools, on-the-job training, apprenticeships, and others.  There are many options available.  Some provide funding assistance, and others are private institutions that require payment of tuition and fees.  They are available throughout our district and Tennessee, with some of the links, information, and contacts to national, state, and local resources and organizations listed below.

Another career training option is a registered apprenticeship.   The Tennessee Labor & Workforce Department's Apprenticeship Training Program is an effective job training system for skilled trade and journey workers. Apprenticeship training is designed to prepare individuals for occupations in skilled trades and crafts and combines structured on-the-job training — supervised by experienced journey workers — with related classroom instruction. All apprenticeship training programs must be registered through the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship. Apprentices who successfully complete the prescribed number of training hours in a registered apprenticeship training program can become certified and skilled journey workers.  Here is a searchable database of the Registered Apprenticeship Sites (just click on Tennessee on the map, or use zip code, and then narrow it to an occupation on the drop list).
